The Skye Terrier from Scotland has a coat with two layers. The top coat is straight and long, while the bottom coat is short, with wooly and thick hair. Acceptable colors for this breed are black or gray, or brown and blond with dark markings on the ears, muzzle, and tail. Skye Terriers have an average shoulder height of 9.75 inches - 10.25 inches (25 - 26 cm}, and can be more than 40 inches in length. These dogs require weekly grooming with a brush. The hair of the Skye Terrier should optimally be parted down the middle of their back. Extra hair around the pads of their feet should be kept trim, and their ears must be kept clean.
Skye Terriers get along fine with children as long as do not tease them. This breed of dog gets along well with other household pets, as long as proper socialization has taken place. They may, however, try to dominate other dogs. The Skye Terrier is an affectionate and loyal dog, although a little reserved around strangers. Skye Terriers make good watchdogs. Training must be done with mutual respect, and it is important to be fair and consistent .The Skye Terrier requires a lot of exercise, and loves to go on long walks in the countryside or woods.
