The Pekingese

(This breed has been viewed 12466 times)

Pekingese dogs are affectionate and noble, but they do not tend to be particularly fond of unfamiliar people. Hailing all the way from China, they have a coat that consists of long and abundant hair. Therefore, a great deal of grooming is required, including frequent brushing and applying powder or dry shampoo to the fur. It is also necessary to trim excessive hair around the pads of their feet. A variety of colors is possible, but the most common combination is black and beige, which is sometimes combined with white.

The Pekingese is a very small breed of dog, with an average shoulder height of a mere seven inches (twenty cm}, and a weight of approximately nine to eleven pounds. If they are socialized properly early in life, Pekingese dogs get along fine with other animals. However, they do not care to be disturbed when they are resting, so they are not well suited for homes with small children. This tiny dog has very little need for exercise, making it quite suited for life in an apartment. Pekingese are independent dogs which tend to consider themselves to be their own boss, but they can be trained through patience and positive reinforcement.
