The Papillon originates from Belgium. It is a long-haired breed, with a coat which is usually white and spotted with colored patches. A white blaze on the head is the preferred marking. Due to it's long hair, Papillons require a regular schedule of thorough brushing. Also, the ear passages should be closely examined for any loose hairs, and these should be carefully removed.

The Papillon is a highly intelligent dog, known for it's obedience. In training, they respond best to a gentle approach, as their willingness to learn makes tends to make training a fairly simple process. Although Papillons can be somewhat reserved around strangers, they are overall lovable and affectionate little dogs which display an incredible eagerness to learn. Papillons have a reputation for being boisterous, and depending on how socialization was carried out, they may get jealous if their owner's attention is diverted elsewhere. This is not usually the case, however. They generally get along quite well with children and other household pets. Papillon have an average shoulder height of eleven inches (28 cm). The exercise needs of this friendly dog are not complicated. It will easily adapt itself to the activity level of your family.
