The Norfolk Terrier is a cheerful dog, which has a reputation for being lively and intelligent. This extremely playful dog gets along with other dogs quite well. It rarely has a problem with children, and has a tendency to briefly announce visitors with a loud barking. The Norfolk Terrier breed of dog exhibits an ability to learn quickly, although it may wish to have its own way, so firmness and consistency are necessary. Norfolk Terrier will adapt itself to the activity level of your family. Bear in mind that Terriers enjoy digging, and need opportunities to do so.
Norfolk Terrier have a coat which is hard and wire haired. The hair tends to be shorter around the head and the ears. Generally accepted colors vary anywhere from black with rust-brown, to straw-yellow, and grey. It is possible to have a small amount of white hair, although it is generally not preferred. Regular grooming with a brush and comb is required, and excessive hair around the pads of the feet should be trimmed regularly. Old hair must be plucked out twice a year by a dog grooming professional. Originating from England, the Norfolk Terrier has an average shoulder height of 9.75 inches (25 cm).
