The French Bulldog has an average shoulder height of 12 inches (30 cm) and weighs in at nineteen to twenty eight pounds (9 - 13 kg). Their coat is moderately fine, with a brilliant sheen, and short, smooth hairs. The French Bulldog's skin is soft and loose, especially around the head and shoulders, where it forms wrinkles. When it is shedding, you can use a rubber brush on a weekly basis to remove the dead hairs. Also, a special lotion will occasionally need to be applied to the facial folds to keep them clean. French Bulldogs have the appearance of an active, intelligent, muscular dog of heavy bone, with a smooth coat, compactly built, and of medium or small structure.

The French Bulldog's expression is that of an alert, curious, and interested dog. They are well behaved, adaptable, and comfortable companions with an affectionate nature and even disposition. French Bulldogs are generally active, alert, and playful, but not unduly boisterous. They are quick to learn simple tasks and are inquisitive, yet unpredictable, as this breed is a bit stubborn on occasion. The exercise needs of this dog are uncomplicated. This breed does well in apartments and prefers cooler weather due to its susceptibility to heat stroke.
