The Flat Coated Retriever is an intelligent and sensible dog which is known to be confident and happy-go-lucky. France With a shoulder height of twenty two to twentyfive inches, Flat Coated Retrievers hail from France. Being sons of the revolution and all, they do not like to be kept in a kennel, preferring instead to be an integral part of the family. Flat-coated Retrievers are great with children, but sometimes their happy over-enthusiasm can knock over toddlers and young children. They are intelligent enough to welcome visitors into the home, yet will bark at unwelcome intruders. The Flat Coated Retriever is eager to please, and simply enjoys learning. This breed consistently scores points in fields such as showing, obedience trials, agility, and retrieving.

The coat of the Flat Coated Retriever is straight and lies flat. Colors can vary from solid black to solid liver. The Flat Coated Retriever's coat must be kept clean and brushed on a weekly basis, but its appearance is best kept as natural as possible. These dogs require a daily exercise regimen, and if they are given plenty of opportunities for long walks, games of catch, swimming, and field sports they be truly happy and healthy dogs.
